Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is being lined up for a sensational return to Atletico Madrid.
Diario Gol says Atletico are plotting to use the funds from selling Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United next summer to re-sign Aguero.
United missed out in their long pursuit of Griezmann after he opted to stay at the La Liga club and sign a new deal, but his buyout clause has stayed at £86 million.
That is set to see the 26-year-old finally move to Old Trafford in 2018.
Atletico could subsequently take advantage of Aguero’s situation at Manchester City if the striker suffers next season under Pep Guardiola with Gabriel Jesus now taking centre stage.
A three-way operation involving United, City and Atletico could ensue next summer, as it is expected United will return with a fresh approach for Griezmann, where part of the transfer fee would go towards an offer to City for Aguero.
