Olympique Lyonnais president Jean-Michel Aulas says coach Bruno Genesio’s position will be assessed following the derby with Saint-Etienne on November 5.
OL are eighth in the table after eight games. While they have lost only one in the league, four draws mean they are three points behind Marseille in third and a further three adrift of second-placed Monaco.
Aulas commented: “We’ll assess the position after the derby. All coaches are in danger and we’re an ambitious club. If I have to change coach then that won’t bother me. If the results are better then we’ll keep working together. If we don’t manage that, then we’ll do something else.
“There’s no urgency to the situation. We’re six points behind Monaco and we host them in our next game. I’m going to tell you that come the end of the season we are going to be where we want to be – with or without Bruno – because we had a really good transfer window and we’ve got a super stadium.”
Elsewhere in an interview with eurosport.fr, Aulas hailed Genesio’s impact as a coach: “Do those who criticise him really know Bruno Genesio? Do they know what he says in his pre-match talks. The players listen to him and appreciate him. For example, Marcelo told me he’d never known such quality of training sessions at any of his clubs in Europe.”
