Karl Toko Ekambi’s Angers SCO continued their good recent record against Girondins de Bordeaux as they drew 0-0 at the Matmut Atlantique.

Girondins de Bordeaux  0 – 0  Angers SCO

Bordeaux’s promising start to life under Gustavo Poyet has given way to a sticky patch, with Les Girondins collecting just one point from three admittedly tough fixtures before Week 29.

Here they could perhaps count themselves lucky to escape with anything from the game, with the visitors seeing Ismaël Traoré head against the top of the bar from Angelo Fulgini’s early free-kick. Fulgini and leading scorer Toko Ekambi also came close for Angers before the interval.

Bordeaux did look a little more dangerous after the interval, with Lukas Lerager helping on a Malcom cross for Martin Braithwaite to head against the bar midway through the second half.

This was a second consecutive goalless home draw for Bordeaux, as they lose more ground in their quest for a top-five finish, while Angers are four points clear of the relegation zone now, having taken seven points from the last nine available. It was a first 0-0 stalemate in 43 top-flight games for them.

THE PLAYER: Martin Braithwaite

The Danish international is still looking for his first Bordeaux goal since signing on loan from Middlesbrough in January after coming off the bench and hitting the woodwork in the second half.

Angers are unbeaten in their six league meetings with Bordeaux since winning promotion in 2015. They also beat them on their way to the Coupe de France final last season.
