Despite Pierre Emerick Aubameyang being heavily linked with a move this summer and even speculated to be making a Borussia Dortmund exit in January, the German club are confident that he will stay.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke denied that the Gabonese forward would leave in January 2018 in favour of a big-money move to China, and insisted he would stay in the Bundesliga.

“In football you can not guarantee anything,” he said.

“But we are confident that Aubameyang will be a Dortmund player this season.

“It is difficult to imagine a scenario wherein that is not the case.”

Aubameyang had been linked with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and the Chinese Super League this summer, but it now looks as though he will stay in Germany.

“The rumours that have appeared in some media sources in recent weeks are complete insanity,” Watzke added.

“Even with hard denials it is tough to fight against speculation these days.

“Because of this, you have to just look calmly at the stories and put up with it, there is no other option.”
