AS Saint-Etienne have appointed former Montpellier Hérault SC coach Jean-Louis Gasset to work alongside Julien Sablé in the club’s new-look management team.
Les Verts announced that discussions with Gasset, 63, “came to a successful conclusion on Wednesday and the technician officially signed up with the club.”
He will work in tandem with Sablé, the 37-year-old former Sainté midfielder and ex-director of the club’s academy who had been named coach on his own after the recent departure of Óscar García.
Assistant to Blanc
Gasset enjoyed success working as an assistant to Laurent Blanc over almost a decade at Girondins de Bordeaux, France and Paris Saint-Germain. Before that he had worked as a coach in his own right and he did so again last season when he took over at Montpellier for the final months of the campaign and steered them to safety.
“His know-how will be invaluable to Julien Sablé and the rest of the coaching staff as they welcome an experienced coach, well-versed in the jousts of the professional world and with an impressive CV,” added Saint-Etienne’s statement.
Saint-Etienne, currently seventh in the Ligue 1 Conforama table having picked up just one point from their last four matches, are in action in the Friday night game this weekend as they host RC Strasbourg Alsace.
