James Rodriguez joined Bayern Munich from Real Madrid in one of the more surprising moves of the summer transfer window and he has contrasted the two clubs ahead of his first year in Germany.
The deal for him to join the German champions is a two-year loan with an option to buy, with the Colombian opting to leave Los Blancos after seeing his minutes significantly reduced last season.
“When I thought of joining Bayern, I looked at the squad and said that there were as many stars here as Real Madrid, with equal quality,” said James to Sport Bild.
“Bayern is as big as Madrid, if not bigger.”
James’ move to Bayern means that he reunites with former head coach Carlo Ancelotti, someone he has a close relationship with.
“[Ancelotti] always kept in touch with me, even though we haven’t worked together for the past two years,” the midfielder continued.
“Our relationship is great and it’s fun to work with him.”
Also speaking of the mentality of former Bayern goalkeeper and legend Oliver Kahn, Rodriguez made it clear that he admires the German.
“Kahn has always represented Bayern with his mentality of not giving up,” he said. “He had a very strong character and always wanted to win.
“I associate him with this club.”
