New AS Monaco signing Keita Baldé believes a move to the principality from Lazio was one he simply could not turn down.
The Senegalese international forward has signed for Monaco on a five-year deal for a reported fee of €30 million as the reigning champions move to strengthen their attack in the expectation that Kylian Mbappé will leave the club before the transfer deadline.
Keita, 22, scored 16 times in Serie A last season and had been a target for numerous leading clubs around Europe so his signature is a prestigious one for Monaco.
“When you get the chance to come here, you accept straight away. It’s the ideal project for me. I’m very happy to be joining a strong squad, with big players who had a brilliant season last year,” said Keita after putting pen to paper.
The club’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev added: “He’s a player we’ve been monitoring for some time, who has already shown a lot of quality and in whom we have a lot of faith to continue building a strong side this season.”
Keita’s signing followed that of the Montenegro forward Stevan Jovetic, signed from Internazionale for a reported €11 million, giving coach Leonardo Jardim new options to support Radamel Falcao in attack. The Colombian has already scored seven times as Monaco have won their opening four league outings of the campaign.
