Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk says he won’t be preparing for Manchester City strikers individually.

Van Dijk has been discussing how the Reds are preparing to take on City’s formidable attacking force of Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling in their quest to take three points from Pep Guardiola’s men.

“I don’t study them, that’s not the way I get to know my strikers,” Van Dijk told Sky Sports.

“Obviously you play against them and get to know how they move.

“Obviously they have so much quality. I think in all of the Premier League, all the strikers are from such a high quality anyway.

“We don’t try to defend only one player, we try to defend with the whole team, their whole formation, their team and that’s the way we try and win the ball back and try and not concede.

“Obviously there will be moments you get one v one, that’s always going to be the case and then obviously you need to show your quality as well with the help of your partner next to you or the full-back next to you as well.”
