Rennes made it three consecutive Ligue 1 Conforama victories, seeing off Amiens 2-0 thanks to goals from Wahbi Khazri and Ismaïla Sarr. Rennes climbed to fifth.

Amiens SC 0-2 Stade Rennais FC

Rennes’ fifth win in eight games has Sabri Lamouchi’s men competing for UEFA Europa League qualification. The Breton club backed up successes against Lyon and Troyes with another maximum haul. Tomas Koubek had to make a fine stop to deny Lacina Traoré in a one-on-one (14′) and also distinguished himself in the 35th minute as he kept out a rasping left-footed shot from the giant Ivorian forward.

Rennes grew into the half and Khazri smashed a free-kick against the crossbar (40′) before opening the scoring a minute later. Prince-Desir Gouano was beaten by Khazri to a mammoth Koubek punt, the Rennes attacker cut inside and the shot deflected off Khaled Adenon and into the goal.

Benjamin Bourigeaud (84′) was close to making the pints safe for Rennes with a half-volley that shaved the post and then Rennes did put the seal on it (86′) as a controlled move saw the ball reach Sarr on the left. The Toung Senegalese international cut in onto his right foot and his shot took a huge deflection off the luckless Gouano and flew into the top corner.

While Rennes can target Europe this result brought to an end Amiens’ mini-run of form that had seen them collect four points from their previous two outings.

THE PLAYER: Wahbi Khazri

The Tunisian international’s goal made it nine in 17 Ligue 1 Conforama appearances this season and Khazri has equalled his PB for a Ligue 1 Conforama campaign set as a Bordeaux player in 2014-2015. Khazri has scored in each of the three straight wins.

Amiens have failed to score 14 times this season, the highest total for any club in Ligue 1 Conforama.
